St. Joseph's Music Ministry

Whether you are a professional musician or a "shower virtuoso", our music ministry would welcome your talents and involvement.  Our music ministry includes the services of two choirs, five cantors and four organists who work with us on a regular basis.

The Youth Choir is open to all children from grade three - high school.  The choir sings at the 8:30 am Family liturgy on Sunday from September through Mother's Day in May.  Rehearsals are held most Thursday afternoons at the church from 3:30-4:30pm.

The adult choir sings at the 10:30 am mass every Sunday from September through Father's Day in June.  Adult Choir rehearsals are held every Wednesday night at 7:30pm in the choir loft.

Being part of the music ministry offers participants an opportunity to support the sung prayer of the St. Joseph's parish community.  This is our most important objective as musicians.  We do, however, have many other great times of fellowship and fun together.  Both choirs have enjoyed social gatherings such as Christmas pizza parties and bowling for the Youth Choir, and brunches and picnics for the Adult choir.  We join with other local parishes, both Roman Catholic and Protestant, to sing for special liturgies and community support efforts.

Most recently, both choirs were involved with Quincy Point Congregational Church and other Quincy parishes, to produce a Christmas C.D.  This was sold to raise money for Project Access, a program of the Quincy Public Schools that provides assistance to local school children who are homeless.  I am proud to say that on Sunday, March 12, 2006, Project Access received a donation of $10,000 dollars as a result of our combined efforts.  St. Joseph's Adult Choir and Quincy Point Congregational Chancel Choir also join together each year to sing at our annual Ecumenical Thanksgiving Service held on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving.  This service is televised on Quincy Cable and features a Community Service Award given to an outstanding member of the Quincy Point neighborhood.  It is a real honor to be a part of these activities.

If you are interested in becoming involved in this ministry, we welcome new members at any time.  All that is required is a love of singing, the ability to sing in tune (relatively), and a prayerful commitment to the ministry of the group and the parish.  If interested, please feel free to contact Jini Vickery, Music Director, at (617) 471-2657.
